The metal is not magnetic at all, so is likely solid brass or bronze that has had a chemical treatment to create the permanent verdigris. The interwebs suggested a coat of wax to protect the piece and bring up the colour. I haven't done that as I thought the new owner might want to choose what finish they want and whether they use food safe wax. This could act as a small fruit bowl, would look amazing with a bunch of grapes, or filled with cherries at Christmas! Would also make a wonderful bowl for a flower arrangement or as a catch all bowl for keys etc.
