"I’ve been painting for a long time. I was a nurse in Australia and New Zealand for 15 years, and during that time I was a member of the religious order of the Little Company of Mary, known as the Blue Sisters. Those years of commitment and services had a profound influence on my life and artistic development.
I left the order in 1972 and my life changed dramatically. I spent time with the Red Cross in South Vietnam, before travelling and working in different communities.
I married John in 1977, he was a keen photographer, and we lived and worked in the South Island. During our time in Christchurch, I took drawing and watercolour classes tutored by Sarah Deans, as well as night classes at Papanui High School with tutor John Evans.
Since my husband John and I moved to the Russley Village in 2015 I have continued painting, as we have a fantastic art room and facilities here. I’m 82 now, and it keeps me interested and involved in life. I enjoy painting landscapes of Central Otago and many other parts of the country. John has since passed away, but his beautiful photography inspired many of my paintings of the mountains and the coastlines."
